Caminho de Fátima 2018
After last year's experience, this year had to repeat it: "Caminho de Fátima", the pilgrimage to the Sanctuary of Fátima.
Using the same path from the previous year, the trip was made calmly and the effort was perfectly bearable. In fact I have been hiking a lot since a year ago and I noticed the difference in this year's pilgrimage. Once again, I did the path alone, on my own, without being integrated into any of the various organized groups. What I lost in logistical support, I gained in freedom and flexibility to manage my schedules.
I must say that, although it was a fantastic experience and to be repeated, it was not the same as last year. Perhaps because the pilgrimage of 2017 was my first time, or because last year the square was full of people awaiting the arrival of Pope Francis. Anyway, it was a few days away from the computer screen, with the camera next to me.
This year I took the Sony A77 with the 16-50mm f/2.8 lens, a sturdy set capable to survive rain and dust and has been with me everywhere since 2013. And also the Sony A7II with the 85mm f/1.8 to make some photographs at night during the Procissão das Velas (candle procession), where a full-frame sensor and a large aperture lens makes all the difference. But during the long hikes, most of the time I only used the mobile phone to capture a few snapshots.
Although this set of cameras has been perfect for the intended purpose, I must say that in future projects I intend to reduce the size and weight of the equipment when I make this kind of hikes. Who knows, one day I'll just shoot with the iPhone!
